Mixtape Cover+Update

As I started to finalize the writing and flow of this mixtape, I decided to open up my notebook again to make the writing more real. If this was possibly going to be my only mixtape I want people to get to know me on a personal level along with the fun and upbeat side. Will the mixtape still be done on 12.1.2009? I'm not sure, but I will know in the next couple of days when I re-record a couple of tracks. There are 7 definite tracks finished and I want to aim at there being a final of 16 tracks. An incredible blend between a party and an autobiography. That's why the title is simply "August Agony" now. I completely re-evaluated what I wanted this mixtape to represent and I am already proud of the body of work we are putting in. As far as features there are a only a couple that I am absolutely certain at the very moment. Colin Munroe, Joell Ortiz, Tha Metatronz and Rhoads 17 are all I know right now. If there is a date change for the mixtape it will be posted here on my blog. I still get really excited when I think about this project and the motivation of it being incredible is what keeps me going. Grassroots and follow me on twitter (ryanjcbrown). Stay grassrooted.

Hottest MCs In The Game (MY List)

MTV recently just came out with their yearly list of the hottest MCs in the game. Here is the MTV list:

  1. Jay-Z
  2. Lil Wayne
  3. Drake
  4. Kanye West
  5. Rick Ross
  6. Gucci Mane
  7. Young Jeezy
  8. Fabolous
  9. 50 Cent
  10. Raekwon
The list is kinda shaky to me for a couple of reasons. One, Eminem who released one of the highest selling albums of the year with Relapse did not make the list. WTF. Second, I think 50 Cent was ranked a little high at number 9 and Raekwon the chef was ranked a little high at number 10. But overall, I think the list is pretty good. While I was bored at work I decided to put together my own list. With my list I added a one liner about why the are on my list, added two more spots to make the list 12 and a link to my one of favorite present tracks. ENJOY!!!

1. Jay-Z "The Blueprint 3 pushes Hova to the top. Very impressive album" On To The Next One
2. Eminem "Relapse wasn't his best, but Slim Shady is back" Beautiful
3. Lil Wayne "Headlined the highest grossing hip-hop tour...Ever. Weezy stays hot" Bedrock
4. Drake "Comeback Season (Classic) So Far Gone (Legendary) Thank Me Later??" Fear
5. Kanye West "Continues to push boundaries and stay relevant. Autotune or not" Streetlights
6. Rick Ross "Deeper Than Rap, one of the best albums of 2009" Face
7. Fabolous "Losos Way. Remixes continue to be hotter than the originals though" Throw It In The Bag Remix
8. Young Jeezy "Appearance after appearance, tour with Wayne, Thug Motivation 103" My President
9. Gucci Mane "The mixtapes just wont STOP. But definitely hottest in the hood. Photoshoot
10. Wale "Mixtapes are too silly. Attention: Deficit November 10th" Inhibitions: Let Loose
11. 50 Cent "Losing respect FAST, but I will listen to Before I Self Destruct" OK, You're Right
12. Raekwon "Cuban Linx Part II is illy. Underdog from the Wu-Tang come through" House Of Flying Daggers

About The Mixtape + Tracklist

“My mixtape tells the story of just one talented and determined young man who feels he has a lot to prove outside of music. At first I wanted it to be more of short story, but as I started to progress (when it came to my writing and exploring the beats) it became an 18 track story. Each track you can feel the growth of the young man. He starts as a college kid who wants to live the college life of girls, partying, drinking and drugging until he meets that one special girl and he decides he wants to make the ultimate commitment sooner rather than later. The overall tape is really relaxed, there are a couple tracks that have been heard before but the majority of it is new stuff I plan on recording this fall semester. I wanted to add some of the most amazing artists to this tape and some of it is their music, but everything is perfectly placed for the theme of the story I am trying to tell. It’s not the most amazing love story, but the thing that is going to make this mixtape much different is that this overall story has never been covered. We will always have the stories of the killers, the hustlers and drug dealers, but that is not who I am or the story I am trying to tell. This is just a honest story with good music that I hope everyone will like. It’s titled ‘How Do You Feel About That??’ because it is basically not a story that is explored in hip-hop. It is a little bit more than hip hop in some elements and tracks and I want people’s honest opinion about the mixtape and the story that is behind. This might be my first and last mixtape and I just want people to enjoy it just as much as I enjoyed telling the story. I love music and this is going to be my definition of what music is to me.”

Little Weapon

Little Terry got a gun, he got from the store,
He bought it with the money he got from his chores,
He robbed candy shop told her lay down on the floor,
Put the cookies in his bag took the pennies out the drawer.

Little Kalil got a gun he got from the rebels,
To kill the infidels and American devils,
A bomb on his waist,
A mask on his face,
Prays five times a day,
And listens to Heavy Metal.

Little Alex got a gun he took from his dad,
That he snuck into school in his black book bag,
His black nail polish, black boots and black hair,
He's gonna blow away the bully that just pushed his ass..

Real recognize real.

I Miss My Love

I mean, I don't even know where to start like.
It's like you find love, and you lose love, and then...

Met her up town on Dyckman
aight then
light skinned
staring with a slight grin, I dont know, Might been
'Cause im in this white Benz

Or the way the Ice in the Breitling flash brighter than lightning
but I knew from right then
She was about her money, and how she fit right in knowing how i might spend.
To make a story short, other than a Tight End
Had a Washington Heights friend
Who bring that white in.
Set up a meeting, Her dude caught a flight in
Sat down at Sole, popped a bottle of white then
got straight to business like two corporate white men
the food came, before I could take a bite in
He said "You the type I usually don't invite in, but since we got a like friend I could get you like, 10"
I told him I could move like 10 by nights end
put the white over the plate, like I'm throwing strikes in.
'El Duke' got a dude in the UK, Buy 5 bricks at a time, $22K
He send the Euro's I send the Puredo
Now thats what I like to call a "Foriegn Exchange"
He smiled. Duke finished his glass of wine
There's a van outside, pull your S-Class behind
My man will pass a dime, at 15 a pop
Tell shorty "Make the drop, Don't make no stops!"
I gave him a hand shake some dollars for the tab
Told shorty the location then I holla'd for a cab
I hit Mike told 'em "Send the wire to the buyers"
Word got 'round like we were handin' out flyers!

And them thangs went as quick as they came
I'm back being a hustler, this chick is to blame

And them thangs went as quick as they came
I'm back being a hustler, this chick is to blame...

12 months in, turned a Benz to a Lambo
Everywhere the fam go, corks fly, Champ Flow--
I gotta celebrate, that's the way I am yo
In the past week I watched 50,000 grams go
Pocket full of money, Army full of Rambo's
Trunk full of bricks, Hand guns full Ammo

Even got detectives if somethin' goes wrong
The money's so strong they see it from my perspective
But with my shorty, A nigga's so protective-
And should be, she's the one who knows where the connect lives.
She don't talk much, real calm and collective
Seen something in me because shorty's really selective.

I tell her fall back, shorty stilla drive
Said the rush of the risk just makes her feel alive
I listen to her fuss, saying "that I must, let her do it 'cause they're aint too many niggas that I trust"

So now time is flyin', I been kinda eyeing-
A ring for my queen who got me diamond buying

I'm in the GT headed up to CT, Lookin' for a stone to light her finger like ET
I got there, and got a call from a DT (detective)
Sounded nervous saying "we need to talk now"
I told em chill out, I aint in new york now
Any problems I got, get traced in chalk now

But when I get back, we can sit and chit-chat
Better not be no bull shit, I aint even wit that..

Back to what a nigga came out here for
this 5ct. Diamond without near flaw's

head back to the city, call up the commitee
get ready for tomorow, they're comin' in with 50
-I almost forgot, I gotta see a cop
I figured it was a drop who must aint get his guap

He told me meet him by the bridge, I get there in a hurry
Got me worried and it's probably just a minor mix up
He said: "Nah Ryan, FED's dun snatched ya chick up-
Caught her at a pick up, scoopin' those bricks up!
She gon' cooperate, and ya fixed up.
She's probably at the headquarters now hangin' Flix up"

I asked him "Was he sure"
Shorty's "Mi Amore"
This happened to me before, with my man Diadore-
Over a Ki(lo) of raw-
My nigga got killed, caps got peeled and I still got guilt.
He assured me, I was hot- she had put 'em on me
Swore to Jesus' Tears that he was here to warn me.

Normally, I would have just ended her life...
but this was the girl I intended to wife

So I went home to shorty, had trouble sleepin'- shorty's kinda peepin my sudden discomfort
She woke up mad early, so I got up with her
She wanted to go alone, but a nigga insisted
Like "Baby it's been a while" and truthfully I missed it

We rode out, but she don't know that I done made a plan
Once she hits the spot, one shot- see you later man

I watched her in the building,
knowing it's the last time seeing her ass climb in and out of the car
Yo I even thought about getting out of the car
But sat back lookin' at the ring about to be yall's

I let one tear fall at an unfair call
Ya whole life can change in just one year yall..
Caught in a thought, then I heard a :: BANG! ::

Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

Yeah

Now listen
First off if it was the last thing
I'll put you first
So you deserve my last name
You make my worst days feel like my birthday
If we nvr happen we'll regret it in the worst way
Like not seeing the world trade your worth the galaxy baby so let's world trade
And I tend to tell God thank you
Cause baby your my angel
At least from my angle...
